Antojitos Mexicanos DF restaurant in Des Moines, Iowa
Antojito Mexicanos opened up as a truck at the Tianguis flea market in 2015 or earlier. Then they were parked on Hubbel Ave. beside Kathy’s Depot, then in a car lot on SE 14th St. Now they have a physical location.
Location: 4100 SW 9th St, in a southside building that once housed a tenderloin place, a Maid Rite, and an Abelardos franchise.

Active Since: The physical location opened March 2017 but their truck had been going since at least summer of 2015.
Specialties: The truck served pambazos and huaraches, but the store has a Mexican dessert and paletaria menu.

Paleteria La Michoacana Ice Cream in Des Moines, Iowa
Location: 1600 E Grand in La Placita shopping center
Active since: they have been here for several years, maybe as long as the shopping center when it was built in the mexican modernist style after the old buildings were torn down.

When you see a paleteria with the name La Michoacana and the classic pink and white color scheme you are visiting a part of a gigantic network of informal franchises serving paletas from the Mexican state of Michoacana. This is one of the biggest food operations in the world, and these places are spreading and growing everywhere. Its a paleta world and we are just living in it.
Specialty: mexican popsicles known as paletas, they have a huge menu of mexican snacks like doritos locos or french fries with crazy topping like pickled onions and candy.
